I’m Dr. Uriel Navarrete (he/him)
Hello
I’m a bicultural, Latino, and gay licensed clinical psychologist. I’m especially interested in supporting people from communities that have been marginalized or underserved, and I approach therapy with care for the cultural, relational, and personal contexts that shape our lives.

Therapy with me often involves slowing down and getting curious about what’s happening in the present — in your thoughts, feelings, relationships, and society — and how familiar patterns may have developed over time. Together, we may explore experiences from earlier in life that continue to influence how you relate to others, how you see yourself and the world, and how you navigate closeness, conflict, or vulnerability.

A central part of our work is strengthening your relationships, both with others and with yourself. This includes exploring your relational tendencies, discovering new ways to respond to others, and deepening your ability to connect with your emotions in the present moment. I also focus on what unfolds between us in therapy, and may gently challenge habits or patterns that no longer serve you — not to push, but to support growth, insight, and a greater sense of choice in how you show up in your life.

My work is informed by several therapeutic approaches, including psychodynamic and emotion-focused therapy. I also draw on multicultural, family systems, LGBTQ+ affirming, somatic, trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and Health at Every Size perspectives. I use these approaches flexibly, with the goal of offering therapy that feels grounded, attuned, and tailored to your needs.

benefit

You appreciate a therapist who is supportive and kind, but still challenges you and provides honest feedback.

You find that increasing your insight about your problems gives you important information about how to better navigate and manage them.

You’re open to feeling some emotional discomfort, within a tolerable range, through the process of learning about yourself and connecting to vulnerable emotions.

You’re interested in learning about the mind/body connection and are open to involving your body as part of therapy. For example, tracking your breathing and slowing it down, or visually orienting to the room around you.

You're willing to explore the impact of systemic issues on your mental health and overall well-being.

You're open to moments of humor and levity during sessions.
I am likely
a therapist match if:
not
You have a diagnosis that is better suited for a higher or different level of care (e.g., unmanaged psychotic and bipolar-related disorders, severe eating disorders, imminent suicidal thoughts and/or self-injurious behaviors).
You prefer a therapist that will only provide coping strategies or give quick solutions.
You’re a minor (less than 18 years old).
You’re currently unwilling to explore and get curious about your inner world and relational tendencies.
You’re currently unable to receive or tolerate feedback and apply it in a constructive way.

You're looking for couples therapy for you and your partner(s).

More About
Gente Liberated

The name Gente Liberated was inspired by two key ideas:
1. Gente (pronounced “hen-teh”) means “people” in Spanish. It reflects a sense of connection and belonging — for you and for our broader community.
2. Liberation psychology uses psychological theory and practice to understand and reduce the effects of oppression on marginalized people. In therapy, this may involve challenging dominant cultural beliefs while affirming the lived experiences of oppressed communities.
Together, these ideas guide our mission to cultivate a space that is inviting, affirming, and grounded in dignity — for you and for our gente.
